INTRODUCING

REVEREND 
DR. KAREN WICKER

EARLY LIFE & EDUCATION

Reverend Dr. Karen Moore Wicker was born in Washington, D.C. to Geneva H. Moore and the late Leonard Moore.  She graduated from the National Cathedral School and then earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated with honors from Meredith College with a Masters Degree in Business Administration.  She continued her education and graduated from the Shaw University Divinity School earning the Master of Divinity degree. She earned the Doctor of Ministry degree at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina with a concentration in Pastoral Theology and Care.

 

WORK & MINISTRY EXPERIENCE

Dr. Wicker has formerly served as Associate Minister, Youth Pastor, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, member of the Prison Ministry, and high school Sunday school teacher. She also serves as Professor of Denominational History, Polity, and Doctrine at the Heritage School of Biblical and Theological Studies in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has also been an adjunct professor at the Triangle School of Theology.  She also serves as a mentor to doctoral students preparing for their dissertation and defense.

She is employed as the manager of County Engagement at a local health insurance company.  She has also completed Clinical Pastoral Education at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

In the community, she has served as Pastoral Care volunteer at the Christian United Outreach Center.  She is currently a commissioner at the Sanford Housing Authority Board and is also the former secretary of the Board of Directors of the Bread Basket in Sanford.  

 

SORORITY MEMBERSHIP

Rev. Wicker is a charter member of the Sandhills Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  where she has held many leadership positions including Chaplain, Treasurer, Chair of Policies and Procedures, Physical and Mental Health, and Educational Development committees.  She is also a member of the South Atlantic Regional Chaplain’s Council for the sorority.  

 

PERSONAL LIFE

She and her husband, Willie Wicker, reside in Sanford, North Carolina.  She has one son Steven and a stepdaughter, Shonta. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.  She also loves the challenge of crossword puzzles, sudoku, and mahjong.

 

One of her favorite scriptures can be found in Micah 6:8 where it says “…and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
